Terms of Service
Effective October 19, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Troupe — the website, mobile applications, and related services (together, the "Service") operated by Troupe ("Troupe," "we," "us," or "our"). Troupe is currently operated as an unincorporated project; if that changes, this page will be updated to name the operating entity.
The short version: Troupe is a marketplace that connects casting directors with actors. Actors use it for free; casting directors pay with credits. We don't cast roles, negotiate deals, or guarantee bookings — we just try to make posting a role and submitting for one a lot less painful. You keep ownership of everything you upload. You have to be 18 or older to use Troupe. Don't use it to harass people, scrape data, or run scams. Read on for the actual terms.
1. Agreement to these Terms
By creating an account, or otherwise accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
If you're using the Service on behalf of a company or other legal entity (for example, a casting office), you represent that you have the authority to bind that entity to these Terms, and "you" refers to that entity as well as you personally.
2. Eligibility & accounts
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. Troupe does not currently support accounts for minors, guardian-linked accounts, or any of the additional protections California and other states require for the earnings and work of minor performers (for example, Coogan Trust accounts). If you are under 18, please do not use Troupe.
When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate, current information and to keep it up to date — particularly information a casting director relies on to evaluate you, like your location, playing age and, if you choose to share it, your union status. You're responsible for everything that happens under your account, including keeping your login credentials confidential. Tell us right away at support@troupecast.com if you think your account has been compromised.
Troupe has two kinds of accounts — Actor accounts and Casting Director accounts — and the features available to you depend on which one you hold. One person may not misrepresent which role they hold, and you may not create an account for the purpose of impersonating a real casting director, production, or actor.
3. What Troupe is (and isn't)
Troupe provides tools for casting directors to post roles, review submissions, request self-tapes, schedule auditions, and manage a talent database — and for actors to build a profile, browse open roles, submit for them, and communicate with casting directors about those submissions.
Troupe is not a talent agency, a personal manager, a union, or a party to any casting, employment, or representation agreement between an actor and a casting director, production, or studio. We don't review roles for legitimacy before they're posted, negotiate rates or contracts, guarantee that any submission will be reviewed or that any role will be filled, or verify the identity, union standing, or credentials that either side represents. Any agreement to audition, self-tape, or work together is strictly between the actor and the casting director.
4. Your content
"Your Content" means anything you upload, submit, or post through the Service — headshots and other photos, your reel link, bio, resume text, self-tape recordings, sides you upload as a casting director, and messages you send.
You retain all ownership rights in Your Content. By submitting it, you grant Troupe a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display Your Content solely as needed to operate and provide the Service — for example, showing your headshot to a casting director you submitted to, or rendering your self-tape back to you and the casting director who requested it. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except where a copy needs to persist briefly for backups, legal compliance, or the retention periods described in our Privacy Policy (for example, self-tapes tied to a submission history).
You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to everything you upload, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights or violate any law. You're solely responsible for Your Content.
A casting director who receives a submission, self-tape, or sides through Troupe may use that material only to evaluate the actor for the specific role it was submitted for (or a closely related recasting on the same project) — not for any other commercial purpose, and not for redistribution outside the casting process.
5. Self-tapes, sides & recording
Some roles require a self-tape — a video audition you record and upload through the Service. Self-tapes are processed and stored by our video infrastructure provider and are not public: playback requires a signed, time-limited access token generated for the specific actor and casting director involved in that submission.
By recording and submitting a self-tape, you consent to being recorded and to that recording being reviewed by the casting director for the role in question. Self-tapes are retained for as long as the associated project remains active, and are automatically deleted approximately six months after the project is closed. See Privacy Policy for the full retention and deletion details.
Sides (audition scripts) that a casting director uploads for a role are visible only to actors with an active self-tape request for that role, and are watermarked with that actor's name and email when displayed. Redistributing sides outside the audition process they were provided for is a violation of these Terms.
6. Credits & payments
Actors use Troupe for free. Creating a profile, applying to roles, uploading a self-tape a casting director requested, and booking an audition cost an actor nothing.
Casting directors pay with credits. One credit is used each time you request a self-tape from an actor or invite an actor to an audition at a time you choose. Opening self-booking audition slots, posting roles and reviewing submissions are free. If a collaborator makes a request on your project, the credit comes from the project owner's balance. Credits are sold at the price shown on the billing page before you pay (currently US$5.00 per credit in the United States and €3.00 in Spain, set by the country on your account), are processed by Stripe — Troupe never receives or stores your full card number — and can only be used on Troupe. They have no cash value and can't be transferred to another account.
Expiry. Purchased credits don't expire. Free welcome or promotional credits expire on the date shown in your account (for welcome credits, 14 days after you receive them), and are used before purchased credits.
When a credit comes back. If you cancel a self-tape request before the actor uploads, or the actor withdraws before uploading, the credit is returned to your balance automatically. A credit used on a request that the actor has already fulfilled is not returned.
Refunds and chargebacks. If a purchase is refunded, or a card payment is disputed and the dispute is lost, the purchased credits from that payment are removed. If some of them were already used, the difference becomes a balance owed, and you can't make new requests until a new purchase covers it. Free credits are never removed this way. Credits are sold to casting professionals for use in their business; if you are a consumer under the law of your country, any mandatory rights you have still apply.
Earlier self-tape fee. Until September 2026, some self-tape requests carried a small fee paid by the actor. Requests created under that model keep the terms shown when they were paid; no new requests are created that way.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Post a role that doesn't exist, isn't genuinely being cast, or misrepresents the production, compensation, or nature of the work;
- Request or upload sexually explicit content, nudity, or content involving anyone under 18;
- Harass, threaten, or discriminate against another user on the basis of any legally protected characteristic;
- Attempt to circumvent the credit system, the messaging restrictions, or any other mechanism built into the Service;
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to extract data from the Service, or attempt to access another user's account or private content (including self-tapes or sides you weren't granted access to);
- Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with one;
- Use the Service to ask actors for payment in exchange for auditions, roles, or representation; or
- Introduce malware, interfere with the Service's operation, or reverse-engineer any part of it.
We may investigate and take action — including removing content, suspending, or terminating accounts — for conduct we reasonably believe violates this section, at our discretion.
8. Casting director responsibilities
If you use Troupe as a casting director, you represent that any role you post is genuinely being cast, that you have the authority to cast it, and that your use of actor information, submissions, and self-tapes complies with applicable law, including any collective bargaining agreements (SAG-AFTRA or otherwise) that apply to the production. You're responsible for how you communicate with and treat actors who submit to your roles through Troupe.
9. Intellectual property
The Service itself — its design, code, and the Troupe name and logo — is owned by Troupe or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use Troupe's branding except as necessary to use the Service as intended.
10. Third-party services
Troupe relies on third-party infrastructure to operate, including Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Mux (video processing and playback), Stripe (payment processing), Resend (transactional email), Sentry (error monitoring), Cloudflare (bot checks), Expo, Apple and Google (push notifications), and Vercel (hosting). Your use of features backed by these providers is also subject to their own terms where applicable. We aren't responsible for outages or issues originating from a third-party provider, though we'll do our best to work around them.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any role, submission, or self-tape will lead to any particular outcome. Any reliance you place on another user's profile, role posting, or communications is at your own risk — Troupe doesn't verify the accuracy of what users post about themselves or their productions.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Troupe and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising out of or related to your use of the Service — including any dispute, interaction, casting decision, or agreement between an actor and a casting director. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service will not exceed the greater of $100 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold Troupe harmless from any claim, loss, or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of Your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your interactions with other users of the Service.
14. Suspension & termination
You may stop using the Service at any time, and you can permanently delete your account yourself from Settings on the website or in the mobile app (see Privacy Policy for exactly what is deleted, including what deleting a casting director account means for the actors who applied to it). We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you've violated these Terms or created risk or legal exposure for us or other users.
15. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
If you live in the European Union, the EEA or the United Kingdom and use Troupe as a consumer, the paragraph above does not take away the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of the place where you live. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under applicable data-protection law (see our Privacy Policy).
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where practical, notify you through the Service. Your continued use of Troupe after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
